NTL / UPC Speed changes

Postby gqma0 » Fri Feb 05, 2010 1:17 pm

FYI,

Those who have NTL/UPC Broadband, there has been an upgrade in speed changes and it's not automatically applied
You have to fill out a form online and you will be automatically upgraded within a few days.

UPC hasn't advertised that for some reasons and I just found out from the website and by contacting their customer service

The new changes are as below.
Current Broadband Speed New Broadband Speed
Broadband Value 3Mb Fibre Power Broadband 5Mb
Broadband Express 10Mb Fibre Power Broadband 15Mb
Broadband Ultra 20Mb Fibre Power Broadband 30Mb

The form is here below
http://www.upc.ie/about_us/Price_Changes/Speed_Changes

Cheers.

I've noticed of late that mine is not running as fast as usual, so hopefully it will be sorted,

Thanks for that.

Just wondering has anyone any advice re Wi Fi connection.

I'm with UPC at the moment for TV and broadband but it isn't a wireless connection. I now want a wireless connection and don't know whether to stay with UPC or would it be cheaper to go elsewhere

Any idea's ??

Go with Magnet.

- No contentio rates
- Cheaper than UPC and much faster
- They will offer a free wireless router

No troubles with their service so far since I switched back to them. Can't say the same about UPC as I've been a customer twice with them in the past

We also use Magnet for internet only. Great having wifi all over the house and the speeds are excellent. Costs us 45.71 euro per month total.

Shee, just to give you some numbers to compare costs

52.23 / mth
- 60Mb/s broadband + TV service (incl live recording)

I use Blueface for the telephone as it has many more advantages over any Internet service providers and I had a lot of dropped calls, stutter and jerkiness when I was with UPC. No issues at all with Magnet and fantastic service.

At the moment with UPC I'm paying €65 per month for tv and broadband, (no idea what speed etc) I don't need a landline

Guess I should consider Magnet and see what they have to offer

Hi

Magnet is an excellent service for Internet.

Never have issues ( well 1 - see below) and speed is excellent.

60MB + speeds

I did have one problem - I use a Mac and was only getting 7MB speeds. Magnet were really helpful and tried everything and eventually sent an engineer out.
Turned out I was getting 60MB from my PC and only 7MB from my Mac. Nothing to do with Magnet.
I still have the Mac problem and have never been able to figure it out.
I do get 60MB speeds out of the PC.
Anyway - kudos to Magnet for helping.
I have nothing but good things to say about the service and I don't even work for them !!
I worked my way up from nothing to a state of extreme poverty
