Antenatal classes - Saturdays in Raheny

Post by Niamh_Cuidiu » Thu Jan 19, 2012 9:29 pm

I have redesigned my antenatal courses for 2012 so that instead of a 6-week evening course I now offer a 3-workshop format (Saturday mornings) where two sessions are all about labour & birth, coping with labour, breathing and relaxation techniques and pain relief etc. with the emphasis on helping yourself have the most straightforward birth possible and also preparing parents to be able to make informed decisions.
We will be looking at the process of birth, at what your body has to do on the day, and what simple things you can do to help yourself. We will also explore what practices / policies / services you can expect from your chosen maternity unit.
The third session is on life with your new baby (breastfeeding, practical babycare, postnatal depression, changes in relationships, meeting your baby’s needs etc.). These sessions will take place on Saturday mornings from 10am – 1.30pm. The total cost of the 2 labour workshops is 120euro per couple with the parenthood workshop as a free optional extra.
The dates in the short term are:
Labour & Birth 1: 4th Feb
Labour & Birth 2: 11th Feb
Parenthood workshop: either Sat 3rd March or Sun 26th Feb
The price includes membership of Cuidiu for 2012 and if possible we will arrange a labour ward tour. We will also have a postnatal reunion when all the babies are born.

I am co-author of bump2babe http://www.bump2babe.ie which is the Consumer Guide to the Maternity Services in Ireland which was launched in May 2011. The site is full of useful information about all maternity hospitals in Ireland and it’s very user friendly – why not have a look?

I could also do one or two private sessions with you instead of an antenatal course but I would recommend the group workshops above.
